Yusuf Scraps Kano’s Education Ministry
In Kano State, Governor Abba Yusuf has dissolved the Ministry of Higher Education and merged it with the Ministry of Education as part of a restructuring of the state’s education system.
The decision also ends the role of Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo as commissioner in charge of the scrapped ministry.
The change means tertiary education matters will now be handled through a Directorate of Higher Education within the Ministry of Education.
The new unit will be led by a permanent secretary and supported by staff responsible for overseeing universities and other higher institutions in the state.
Authorities said agencies previously under the dissolved ministry, including the scholarship board, will return to the Ministry of Education. State owned universities and other higher institutions will also fall under the supervision of the new directorate.
The government said the restructuring is part of a broader reform aimed at improving coordination in the education sector while cutting the cost of governance.
Officials from the offices of the secretary to the state government and the head of service have been directed to carry out the changes immediately.
