Zamfara Governor Deflects To New Party
The governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has left the Peoples Democratic Party and moved to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The defection was first made public by the deputy governor, Mani Mummuni, in a widely shared video before it was later confirmed by the governor’s office.
The governor’s media aide, Nuhu Anka, said the decision followed consultations with political leaders and stakeholders across the state. He explained that ongoing disputes and leadership tensions within the PDP influenced the move.
According to the statement, the internal problems within the party had created uncertainty that could affect governance and development efforts in Zamfara.
The governor was said to have considered the current political situation before deciding to switch parties.
The announcement also stated that the governor remains focused on improving security, peace and development in the state.
Officials added that the final decision was taken during a meeting at the Government House in Gusau with senior government figures and political allies.
