Young footballer arrested and unlawfully detained in igbaukwu Anambra state

22 years old boy who is preparing to play football and study in Germany allegedly arrested and detained unlawfully in Igboukwu, Anambra.
The family of Pantaleon Osunkwo in Obiuno, Igboukwu community, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, has petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, over the “unlawful” arrest, detention and prosecution of their son, Carlo Osunkwo, by operatives of Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu.
The family, in a petition dated July 14, 2025, said Carlo, aged 22, the last of their set of triplets, has been detained and remained incommunicado at the RRS Awkuzu since he was arrested on June 7.
According to the family’s petition, the security operatives arrested their son on the orders of a local security officer (name withheld), who also hails from the same community.
The petition was brought before the CP by the mother of the boy, Patience Osunkwo, a retired Director from the Public Works Department of the National Directorate of Employment under the Federal Ministry of Labour.
According to the petition the arrested was orchestrated by Vice Chairman of Security in Igboukwu and Security Adviser to the Obiuno Community, popularly known as ‘Chuks’, who hails from a family notorious for criminal activities, including kidnapping and armed robbery.
She mentioned that her husband had publicly opposed the appointment of the orchestrator as vice chairman of security in their community due to his character.
Hence the orchestrator has openly threatened to retaliate against their family, especially her husband, for not supporting his appointment. These threats have now materialised by ordering the arrest of their son who is preparing to travel to Germany to study and Play football.
However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, said he would expedite action on the case.
