Abuja Turns 50 On Tinubu’s 3rd Anniversary – Wike
The Federal Capital Territory Administration has announced plans to mark Abuja’s 50th anniversary alongside President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office.
The disclosure was made in Abuja during a meeting between the FCT Minister and staff of the administration as preparations begin for the milestone celebration.
The minister said a committee would soon be set up to coordinate activities for the golden jubilee and the presidential anniversary.
He explained that a special publication documenting Abuja’s journey over the past five decades would be unveiled during the celebrations expected to hold in about three months.
He credited recent changes in the territory to stronger financial access, noting that development picked up after the FCT was removed from the Treasury Single Account.
According to him, the shift opened doors to funding that made it easier to deliver projects across the city, while also improving career growth opportunities for civil servants within the FCT system.
Officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority said the last two and a half years have recorded rapid progress unseen in the territory’s history.
They revealed that several inherited projects have been completed, with many more nearing delivery, adding that the number of projects inaugurated since 2023 could reach 50 by the time the next anniversary is marked.
