ADC Calls Out N’Assembly On Stalling Reforms
The African Democratic Congress has raised alarm over what it sees as slow movement on key electoral changes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said the National Assembly has yet to pass the 2025 Electoral Bill for presidential assent, despite the time pressure.
The concern was made public in a statement released on Saturday by the party’s national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
According to the ADC, the delay is troubling because the legislature is largely controlled by the ruling All Progressives Congress, which the party believes may be slowing the process on purpose.
The ADC noted that the proposed amendments contain fresh rules on compliance and eligibility that political parties must clearly understand before implementation. It warned that rushing these changes too close to the elections could create confusion across the political space.
The party added that failing to give enough time to study and apply the new provisions could affect both political parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission, raising fears about the smooth conduct of future elections
