ADC Race To Meet INEC Deadline Begins
In Abuja on Sunday, the African Democratic Congress announced the launch of a free online membership registration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The move comes as parties prepare to meet fresh legal requirements set by the updated Electoral Act.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said both new and old members must complete their details on the new digital platform.
Only those fully captured and verified in the party’s database will be eligible to vote or contest in its primaries.
Manual registration, he added, will continue alongside the online process nationwide.
The decision follows INEC’s revised timetable, which shifted the presidential and National Assembly elections to January 16, 2027, and governorship and state assembly polls to February 6, 2027.
Political parties are expected to submit their digital membership registers by April 2, 2026, a requirement that has stirred debate among stakeholders.
While rolling out the portal, the ADC maintained its reservations about aspects of the Electoral Act 2026.
Still, it said the digital drive is aimed at widening participation, easing enrolment for Nigerians at home and abroad, and positioning the party for the next electoral cycle.
