Sokoto South Senator, Aminu Tambuwal, has called on the Federal Government to extend the ongoing security operations against terrorists to other parts of the country beyond Sokoto State.

Tambuwal made this appeal on Friday while appearing as a guest during an interview on Arise Television.

The senator explained that security efforts should involve broader collaboration and must not be limited to one geographical area.

He stressed that several locations facing serious threats also deserve attention, noting that terrorist activities are not confined to a single state.

He said, “Areas of concern like Borno, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and a host of other parts of the country should be covered by this operation so that we do not have a situation where a particular part of the country that has not been as widely reported but is having such major security challenges as these other states would not be part of the narrative.

“I believe that the Nigerian government should seek greater collaboration with many more countries, including the US and others that are willing to support this fight; after all, it is a transnational issue,” Tambuwal said.

On Christmas night, US President Donald Trump announced that powerful and deadly strikes had been launched against terrorists in the Northwest region.

The United States Africa Command, AFRICOM, later stated that the air operations were conducted at the request of the Nigerian authorities.

Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed that the country worked in partnership with the United States on the strikes aimed at ISIS terrorists in Sokoto.
