Airstrikes Kill 61 ISWAP Fighters In Borno
Nigerian troops, supported by air strikes, have reportedly killed 61 suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province during a failed attack on a military base in Malam Fatori.
The early morning assault targeted troops of Operation Hadin Kai at the 68 Battalion location, with insurgents advancing on foot from the Duguri axis and deploying armed drones in an attempt to breach the base.
Military sources said the attack was repelled through coordinated operations between ground forces and the Nigerian Air Force.
Precision air strikes and sustained firepower forced the insurgents into retreat after suffering heavy losses.
According to the sources, four successful air interdiction strikes were carried out on enemy positions, significantly weakening their fighting capacity.
The operation also received support from allied air units from neighbouring Niger Republic, which targeted fleeing fighters.
Despite the intensity of the clash, only four soldiers were reported to have sustained minor injuries and have since been stabilised.
The operation highlights ongoing efforts by Nigerian forces to contain insurgent threats in the North-East, particularly in border communities around the Lake Chad region, where cross-border attacks remain a concern.
