Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has written his name in the Premier League record books, becoming the Nigerian player with the most appearances in the competition’s history.
The Fulham star reached the milestone on Saturday during his side’s 1–0 defeat to Arsenal at Craven Cottage, making his 299th Premier League appearance.
By doing so, the 29-year-old midfielder overtook the long-standing record of 288 appearances held by former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi — a mark that had stood unbroken for 11 years.
According to Bold Sports, the achievement was particularly symbolic for Iwobi, as it came against Arsenal, the club where he launched his Premier League career.
Since his debut, Iwobi has featured 149 times for Arsenal, 140 times for Everton, and 85 times for Fulham, including Saturday’s match, underscoring a career defined by consistency, resilience, and longevity in England’s top flight.
