Anambra Issues Punishment To Student Over Sit-at-home
The Anambra State Government has warned that students who fail to attend school on Mondays will face disciplinary action.
The state Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced that any student who stays away from school on Mondays will be suspended for one week.
According to the commissioner, the directive is part of efforts to restore regular academic activities across schools in the state.
Authorities say the move is necessary to discourage absenteeism linked to the long-running Monday sit-at-home practice observed in parts of the South-East.
Education officials explained that schools must operate fully throughout the week and students are expected to attend classes without interruption.
The government said parents and guardians should also ensure their children report to school every Monday.
The warning comes as the state steps up measures aimed at protecting the school calendar and preventing further disruptions to learning.
