Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has revealed that the Court of Appeal, in 2022, ordered the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore made this disclosure on Monday while responding to questions during an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme aired on Arise Television.
He was reacting to the protest held on Monday in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), demanding the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore is the lead organiser of the Free Nnamdi Kanu protest.
“We were attacked by the Nigeria police. So, I haven’t done anything wrong in this protest and we also ended up in the FCT police command.
“Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, his brother and eleven others were arrested by the Nigeria police,” he said.
Speaking about the court rulings, Sowore stated, “The Court of Appeal in 2022 asked that Nnamdi Kanu be released.
“That judgement ought to have taken effect immediately after it was given but the Nigerian government did not honour it.”
