Atiku Attacks Tinubu Over Plateau Visit
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his recent trip to Plateau State, saying it showed a lack of connection with citizens facing deadly attacks.
The remarks came days after killings in parts of the state, as concerns grow over rising insecurity. He described the visit as distant and poorly handled.
The criticism followed claims that the President’s visit did not go beyond the airport in Jos, with no stop in affected communities.
Atiku said the trip appeared brief and symbolic, without direct contact with grieving families or victims. He also suggested the visit was cut short, raising questions about its purpose.
He further alleged that the visit was turned into a political event, with meetings involving party figures instead of focusing on those affected by the violence.
Atiku compared the situation to a past visit to Benue, saying a similar pattern had played out. He argued that this approach shows a repeated way of handling national tragedies.
Atiku also faulted the absence of hospital visits and clear action plans to address the crisis, adding that moving residents to welcome the President created a false display. He said such actions shift attention away from real suffering and fail to address insecurity.
According to him, Nigerians want safety and real leadership, not symbolic appearances.
