The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that five officers were killed and two others injured during an ambush by bandits in Sabon Sara Village, Darazo Local Government Area.
Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ahmed Wakil, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, revealed that the incident occurred on November 22, 2025, during an intelligence-led visibility patrol in the troubled area.
According to the statement, intelligence received from a concerned citizen prompted the deployment of a tactical unit around 11:30 a.m. The team, which included members from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Mobile Police 10PMF Bauchi, Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), and State Intelligence Department (SID), was ambushed by unidentified Fulani youths while conducting patrols aimed at curbing farmer–herder clashes near Sabon Sara Village.
Tragically, the attack led to the deaths of five officers: DSP Ahmad Muhammad (SID), ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF), Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF), Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF), and Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU).
Additionally, Inspector Isah Musa (SID) and Inspector Yusuf Gambo (SID) sustained injuries of varying severity.
On receiving the report, Divisional Police Officer SP Auwalu Ilu swiftly led reinforcements to the scene. The injured were rushed to the Darazo General Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were taken to the morgue.
CSP Wakil stated that efforts to rid the state of criminal elements remain unwavering. He praised the bravery of the personnel involved, noting that they neutralised a significant number of bandits during the gunfight.
The command is intensifying efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu personally visited the scene, assessed the situation, and offered condolences to the families of the fallen officers.
