Why Awujale hopefuls were called in?
Contestants seeking the Awujale of Ijebuland stool have been summoned by the Department of State Services following growing tension around the selection process.
The move has added a fresh layer to the controversy surrounding the race for one of the most respected traditional stools in Ogun State.
The summons affects all nominees cleared by the Fusengbuwa ruling house and was conveyed through the Awujale Kingmakers Council. As a result, a meet-and-greet earlier scheduled to hold at the Aafin Awujale in Ijebu-Ode was called off without notice.
The directive was issued on January 20, 2026, and formally communicated to leaders of the Fusengbuwa ruling house. The nominees were asked to appear at the DSS office in Ijebu-Ode, located along NTA Road near the State Psychiatric Hospital, by 11am.
The decision followed rising concerns linked to petitions, disagreements, and claims surrounding the succession process. The involvement of the security agency suggests authorities are seeking clarity and calm as the contest continues to draw public attention.
The summons has further stirred interest in the Awujale race, which has already faced delays and disputes. With security agencies now involved, observers say the process may face tighter scrutiny in the coming days as officials try to prevent unrest and preserve order.
