The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has dismissed reports alleging that Christians are being persecuted in Nigeria, insisting that the nation’s security issues stem from terrorism and general criminality rather than religious targeting.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, General Oluyede clarified that there is no organized persecution of any religious group in the country.

“There is no Christian persecution in Nigeria. I want to assure Nigerians that, going forward, we are going to intensify our efforts to tackle terrorism and restore lasting peace across the nation,” he said.

He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to strengthening ongoing operations against insurgents and other criminal networks disrupting national stability.

Oluyede further appealed to citizens to avoid spreading divisive or misleading narratives that could worsen tensions, stressing the need for unity and cooperation in addressing the country’s security challenges.
