After completing her six-month suspension, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, is set to officially return to plenary sessions today (Tuesday) alongside her colleagues.

Her lawyer, Victor Giwa, confirmed the development in an interview with The Punch, assuring that the lawmaker would resume legislative duties without obstruction.

The Senate had earlier postponed its resumption date from September 23 to October 7, 2025, extending its annual recess by two weeks — a move that delayed discussions on several pressing national matters.

Giwa warned against any attempt by the Senate to prevent Akpoti-Uduaghan from rejoining plenary, stressing that she had already completed her suspension and was constitutionally entitled to return to her seat.

“To me, our client should just go straight and resume on Tuesday. Anything else they say is just an opinion. As Femi Falana said, the Senate cannot become an institution that legalises illegality,” he said.

According to him, barring her from entry would contradict the Senate’s own resolution and could lead to “total chaos” within the legislature.

“She has served out the six months, so whatever is going to court now is merely to determine whether the initial suspension in March was valid. It has nothing to do with her resumption. Denying her entry means going against your own resolution and promoting confusion within the National Assembly,” he cautioned.

Akpoti-Uduaghan had previously branded Senate President Godswill Akpabio a “dictator” after she was granted access to her office two weeks ago, following the end of her suspension. Her return was facilitated by the Deputy Director of the National Assembly Sergeant-at-Arms, Alabi Adedeji, who officially unsealed her office located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing.
