Brenda Biya, the only daughter of Cameroon President Paul Biya, has publicly called on citizens not to vote for her father in next month’s presidential election.
In a video shared on her social media, Brenda stated that she no longer identifies with the presidential family and announced her decision to refuse any financial support from her parents.
She also disclosed serious family conflicts, accusing her uncle, the director of the civil cabinet, of wishing her “death by overdose.”
Addressing the nation, Brenda apologized to Cameroonians for the harm she believes has been caused by her father’s long tenure in office. She confirmed that she would not vote for him and encouraged others to follow her lead, saying, “Do not vote for Paul Biya, not because of me, but because he has caused too much suffering. I hope we will have another president.”
President Paul Biya, 92, is seeking an unprecedented eighth term in office. He has led Cameroon since 1982, following his tenure as prime minister from 1975 to 1982, making him the world’s oldest sitting head of state.
