Confusion Over Plateau Death Toll
In Plateau State, the police have confirmed that 14 people died after an attack by gunmen in Jos North, though residents insist the toll is much higher.
The incident happened in Angwan Rukuba community on March 29, 2026.
According to the police, 12 victims were first recorded, made up of 10 men and two women, before two more bodies were later found during a search of nearby bushes.
Officers said they responded after receiving reports of gunshots and quickly moved to the area.
Residents, however, said they counted about 27 bodies, claiming more victims were recovered from a mortuary and brought back to the community. The difference in figures has raised tension and grief among locals.
Security operatives have launched a joint operation to track the attackers, while bodies have been moved for examination.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to restore calm and bring those behind the attack to justice.
