Court Allows Yahaya Bello Mecca Trip
The Federal High Court in Abuja has approved a request by former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello to travel out of Nigeria for a religious pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
The ruling was given in Abuja, where the court considered Bello’s application seeking permission to leave the country despite his ongoing legal case. The former governor is facing trial over alleged financial misconduct but asked the court to allow him perform the pilgrimage.
The judge granted the request after reviewing the terms of his bail, noting that Bello had met the required conditions and posed no flight risk. The court also ordered that the trip must be strictly for the pilgrimage and that he must return within the approved timeframe.
Bello’s legal team welcomed the decision, saying it showed the court’s confidence in his commitment to face trial. The case is expected to continue once he returns from Mecca.
