The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Friday, ordered the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to suspend its national convention planned for Saturday and Sunday in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, the court also prohibited the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from supervising, monitoring, or acknowledging the results of any convention the party conducts without the participation of the former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, as a candidate.
The court stated that the evidence presented demonstrated that Lamido was unfairly denied the chance to acquire a nomination form to run for the National Chairmanship of the party, which contravenes both the Constitution and the Regulations of the PDP.
The court declared that the party has a duty to provide opportunities for its members to serve by implementing deliberate measures that allow them to pursue their ambitions.
Consequently, Justice Lifu directed that the planned convention be suspended to permit the plaintiff (Lamido) to acquire the nomination form, rally his supporters, and carry out his campaign.
