A condemned inmate identified as Abba Hassan has escaped from the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Potiskum, Yobe State.
The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the development in a public notice released on Saturday, stating that the escape occurred on October 31, 2025.
Police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, explained that Hassan, who hails from Maiduguri in Borno State, was on death row before he fled the correctional facility.
He urged residents of Yobe and neighbouring states to remain vigilant and report any information that could assist in locating the fugitive.
“People should not try to confront or arrest him on their own. For your safety, report to the nearest police station or correctional centre,” the statement read.
The Command also provided an emergency contact number—08038452982—for anyone with useful information.
SP Abdulkarim expressed appreciation to members of the public for their continued cooperation and assured that the police are collaborating with other security agencies to recapture the escapee and maintain safety across the state.
