Details Of ADC Meeting With Atiku Emerges
The Action Democratic Party has confirmed holding a private meeting with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as part of wider consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party leaders say the discussion focused on the future of Nigeria’s democracy and how opposition parties can remain active and competitive in the coming years.
The meeting took place in Abuja on February 1 and comes amid shifting alliances within the opposition. Its timing has sparked speculation about Atiku’s political plans, especially as questions linger over his chances of securing a presidential ticket on another major opposition platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
According to the ADP leadership, the engagement was driven by concerns about the state of the multiparty system.
Party officials explained that the talks form part of broader outreach to political actors, youth groups and civic organisations.
“There is a need for a ‘Plan B’,” the chairman said, noting that opposition parties want alternative platforms ready in case legal or technical hurdles disrupt their plans before the next election.
