Disu Warns Officers Ahead Of 2027 Polls
The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assured Nigerians that the Police Force will stay neutral as the country moves towards the 2027 general elections.
He gave the pledge in Abuja during his first strategy meeting with senior officers after taking office.
He said the credibility of the next polls rests heavily on how officers carry out their duties, noting that the Force must enforce the law without bias and remain professional at all times.
According to him, election security will cover the period before, during and after voting to protect officials, voters and key facilities.
He warned that there would be zero tolerance for partisanship, misconduct, or abuse of authority.
He added that any officer who compromises neutrality or breaks electoral rules will face strict disciplinary action, including possible prosecution.
Beyond election matters, the police chief also promised reforms within the Force.
He said units responsible for discipline and complaints will be strengthened to tackle corruption, extortion and other forms of misconduct, insisting that no officer is above the law.
