Drivers Protest Fuel Hike In Edo
In Benin City, commercial drivers on Upper Sakponba Road staged a protest on Monday, blocking parts of the road over rising petrol prices.
The action caused heavy disruption, leaving many commuters stranded.
The protest followed a sharp increase in fuel cost, which drivers say has made operations difficult.
They urged colleagues to raise transport fares, warning that passengers paying old rates could be dropped midway.
Roadblocks set up at Aifuwa Street and Pioneer Junction forced passengers to trek long distances.
Many commuters were seen carrying loads as they searched for alternative transport routes.
Drivers said petrol prices had jumped from about N870 to N1,350 per litre, making it hard to cover daily expenses and vehicle costs.
The situation has already pushed transport fares higher across parts of the city.
The development reflects growing pressure on Nigerians as fuel costs continue to affect daily life and transportation.
