Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the early hours of Sunday, 26th October, conducted a raid at Proxy Night Club located at 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, where a drug party was reportedly taking place, leading to the arrest of more than 100 suspects.
The Agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, who confirmed the operation, stated that among those apprehended was the owner of the club, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, who was detained for screening.
“Cartons of illicit substances, including Loud and laughing gas, were recovered from suspects at the party and the club’s store.”
He explained that the raid was based on intelligence reports regarding the drug party. “NDLEA operatives who were embedded in the party between 11 pm on Saturday, 25th October, however, disrupted the gathering at 3 am on Sunday, 26th October, in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).”
In a related operation, the NDLEA disclosed that 70 parcels of cocaine concealed in containers of cocoa butter formula body cream, destined for London, United Kingdom, were discovered at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, leading to the arrest of three suspects after a series of follow-up investigations across the city.
“The cocaine consignments weighing 3.60 kilograms were discovered on 14th October 2025 during examination of cargoes packaged as personal effects going to London, UK on an Air Peace flight.”
“A cargo agent, Lawal Mustapha Olakunle, who presented the consignment for airfreight, was promptly arrested while investigations stretching into two weeks led to the arrest of two principal suspects linked to the attempt to export the concealed Class A drug to the UK.”
“In a follow up operation on 18th October, a female healthcare worker Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah was arrested following which Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, the Chief Executive Officer of a travel agency, Mutiu Adebiyi & Co, was arrested at his 23 Ladoke Akintola Street, Ikeja GRA Lagos office on Monday 20 th October.”
In another case, NDLEA officers at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu, foiled an attempt by a 35-year-old Lesotho national, Lemena Mark, to smuggle 103.59 grams of methamphetamine hidden in a diabeta herbs coffee tea pack to the Philippines on an Ethiopian Airlines flight on Wednesday, 22nd October. The suspect was arrested, and the illicit drug was seized.
Similarly, NDLEA operatives at Bode Saadu, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, arrested a 40-year-old suspect, Umar Abubakar, on Tuesday, 21st October, after recovering 21,950 capsules of tramadol 250mg concealed inside a 100-litre water heater, following credible intelligence.
In Taraba State, two suspects, Auwal Musa, 26, and Salihu Bala, 22, were intercepted on Tuesday, 21st October, at Dan-anacha checkpoint with 450,000 tablets of tramadol and Exol-5, while transporting the drugs in a truck carrying building materials from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Mubi, Adamawa State.
Also, NDLEA personnel on patrol along the Okene/Lokoja highway in Kogi State, seized 162.200kg of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, from a truck on Friday, 24th October. In a related operation in Nasarawa State on Wednesday, 22nd October, officers recovered 128kg of the same substance from a 55-year-old suspect, Abubakar Muhammad, in the Keffi area.
A mother of two, Oyonumoh Glory Effiong, identified as a major distributor of Canadian and California Loud, both potent cannabis strains, across Lekki, Ajah, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and VGC, was arrested by NDLEA operatives on Friday, 17th October, during a raid at her Lekki residence, where 500 grams of the illicit substances were seized.
In the Ikorodu area of Lagos, NDLEA officers carried out a raid on Thursday, 23rd October, at the residence of a suspect, Ogunyabo Adenigbigbe, in Solomade Estate, where they discovered 275 litres of “skuchies,” a newly emerging psychoactive drink produced from a mixture of black currant, cannabis, and opioids.
In Abia State, a 75-year-old man, Echendu Onuoka, was arrested on Wednesday, 22nd October, at Ovum Village, Obingwa Local Government Area, with 4.7kg of skunk in his possession. Similarly, a 60-year-old woman, Aukana John, was apprehended with 225 grams of the same drug at Apanta Village in the same area.
Elsewhere, NDLEA operatives seized 150kg of skunk during a raid at Lot Camp, Ikun Akoko, in Ondo State. Two suspects, Bashir Mohammad, 50, and Samini Ahmed Tijjani, 35, were arrested with 234.5kg of the substance at Yan Aya, Saminaka, in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Friday, 24th October. Additionally, two other suspects, Isah Usman, 50, and Salvation Okoler, 18, were caught with 8,600 tramadol 225mg tablets and rohypnol along the Abuja/Kaduna highway.
At the Seme border in Lagos, NDLEA operatives arrested Jacob Ojugbele with 55kg of skunk at the Ashipa area of Badagry on Wednesday, 22nd October, while another suspect, Amusa Oluwabukola, was apprehended with 121.3 litres of skuchies at Itoga, Badagry.
In Zamfara State, NDLEA officers patrolling the Gummi-Anka road on Monday, 20th October, detained a 30-year-old suspect, Abubakar Ibrahim, who was found with an AK-47 rifle and 1,746 rounds of assorted ammunition for AK-47 and GPMG rifles. He was reportedly transporting the weapons from Sokoto to Bagega forest in Anka Local Government Area. Both the suspect and the recovered items have been handed over to the relevant security agency for further investigation.
Meanwhile, NDLEA commands and formations nationwide continued their “War Against Drug Abuse (WADA)” sensitisation campaigns in schools, workplaces, religious centres, and communities during the past week.
These included lectures at Asabari Grammar School, Iluwa Isale Oke, Saki West LGA, Oyo; Government Day Girls Secondary School, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi; St. Mark’s College, Nsude, Enugu; Kusaki Secondary School, Gboko North, Benue; Government Day Secondary School, Serti-Baruwa, Gashaka LGA, Taraba; Police Children School 2, Port Harcourt, Rivers; and Hajara Ahmad International School, Tudun Wada, Kano, among others.
While commending the officers and men of MMIA, AIIA, Lagos, Kwara, Abia, Nasarawa, Kogi, Ondo, Anambra, Taraba, Kaduna, Seme, and Zamfara Commands for their successful arrests and seizures, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), encouraged them and their counterparts across the nation to maintain the Agency’s balanced approach to drug control operations.
