EFCC Detains 20 People For Electoral Fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has detained 20 individuals over alleged electoral fraud during the Federal Capital Territory council elections, recovering more than N17 million in the process.
The arrests took place in Abuja during Saturday’s local government polls. Operatives moved in after receiving reports of cash inducements being distributed to influence voters at different polling units.
Investigators said the suspects were caught with various sums of money believed to be linked to vote buying.
The funds recovered from them totalled over N17 million, now in the custody of the commission as inquiries continue.
The agency stated that those found responsible will face prosecution in line with the law.
The development adds another layer to the FCT elections, which have already sparked debate over turnout and the conduct of the exercise.
