The Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, Sijibomi Ogundele, has been questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of a N5.7 billion contract fraud involving the Enugu State Government.
Ogundele, who surrendered to the commission after being declared wanted, was interrogated for more than 10 hours on Monday, with indications that he could be detained as questioning continued late into the night.
According to EFCC sources, his personal and corporate bank accounts have been frozen, while his international passport has also been seized to restrict his movement during the investigation.
The case relates to an N11 billion contract awarded to Sujimoto by the Enugu State Government. Although 30 per cent of the contract sum was initially approved for payment, Ogundele allegedly requested 50 per cent—N5.7 billion—promising to deliver the project ahead of schedule.
However, the state government claims the work completed was valued at only N750 million and accused the contractor of abandoning the project site. This led to a formal petition to the EFCC.
Investigators, alongside state officials, had earlier inspected the site before inviting Ogundele for questioning. When he failed to appear, he was declared wanted by the commission.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the development, saying: “Our investigators are still grilling him.”
Ogundele, however, has vowed to clear his name, maintaining that he will defend himself against the allegations.
