EFCC Storms FCT Polling Units
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has deployed its operatives across the Federal Capital Territory to monitor the ongoing Area Council elections.
The move is aimed at checking vote buying and other financial crimes during the exercise.
Officials of the anti-graft agency were seen around polling units on Saturday as residents voted for chairmen and councillors in the six area councils.
The commission said its presence is to deter illegal cash inducements and ensure compliance with electoral laws.
The deployment comes amid reports of vote trading in parts of the FCT, with concerns raised over cash payments to voters.
EFCC officers are working alongside other security agencies to observe activities before, during and after voting.
Authorities have urged political actors and voters to conduct themselves lawfully, warning that anyone caught engaging in financial inducement or related offences will face prosecution.
