A leading Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, on Thursday announced his resignation from the party, citing alleged compromise of its internal processes.
Fayose, the younger brother of former Governor Ayodele Fayose, did not reveal the platform on which he plans to pursue his governorship ambition.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja, he said he and his supporters could no longer remain in the PDP, accusing the party of being hijacked by undemocratic forces.
“The decision has been somewhat difficult for us as stakeholders of the party in Ekiti State. We are, however, compelled to take it, considering the state of affairs within the party,” he said.
Fayose accused PDP Acting National Chairman Ambassador Iliya Damagum and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu of deliberately undermining the party.
“I have lost hope in the leadership of the party headed by Ambassador Iliya Damagum and Anyanwu, who are out to destroy the PDP. You don’t need any soothsayer to tell you that both of them are working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),” he alleged.
He further claimed that arrangements for the PDP primaries in Ekiti had been “compromised,” warning that whoever emerges as the party’s candidate may not be recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“In view of this, I hereby dissociate myself from this kangaroo arrangement,” Fayose declared, urging his supporters to remain calm as he consults widely on his next political move.
