The Cross River Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Morrison Ogbonna, was found dead in his hotel room in Calabar early Thursday morning.
Vanguard reports that his officers discovered him while attempting to pick him up for a scheduled assignment.
An anonymous source explained, “This is what happened this morning. Officers went to the hotel to pick him up, but when there was no response, they checked his room. After knocking without success, they alerted the hotel management, who opened the room and found him dead.”
The source added that Ogbonna had recently been transferred to Cross River in August to succeed Rachel Umebuali.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Irene Ugbo-Obase confirmed the death, saying, “I can confirm that it is true, but the cause of his death is something I cannot readily disclose.”
