El Rufai Appears In Court After Mother’s Burial
In Kaduna, former governor Nasir El-Rufai appeared before the State High Court for the hearing of his bail application over alleged corruption charges filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
The case is being heard by Justice Rilwan Aikawa.
El-Rufai had earlier been arraigned on March 24 and remanded before securing administrative bail to attend the burial of his mother, Ummah El-Rufai, who died in Cairo. She was later buried in Abuja, with prayers held after.
He arrived the court on Tuesday morning under light security, with additional officers stationed around the area to maintain order.
The bail hearing follows earlier proceedings where his legal team filed an application for his release.
His counsel, Ubong Akpan, said the charges involve alleged financial transactions and account activities, noting that the former governor is linked to one count in the case.
