Enugu Tightens Political Campaign Rules And Funds
The Enugu State Government has approved a ₦150 million permit fee for political parties and candidates planning to contest the 2026 and 2027 local, state and federal elections in the state.
The directive was announced by the Enugu State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency during a management meeting in Enugu.
The agency’s General Manager, Francis Aninwike, said the payment is compulsory before any party or candidate can display campaign materials across the 17 local government areas.
He explained that the permit covers rallies, billboards, branded vehicles, banners, T-shirts, caps and other forms of outdoor promotion.
According to the agency, the policy is meant to control visual clutter, protect public facilities and ensure order in political advertising.
It also stated that only practitioners licensed by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria are allowed to mount billboards or campaign structures within the state.
ENSSAA warned that defaulters risk having their materials removed and could face legal action.
The agency added that the rule will apply to all political parties equally and urged stakeholders to run peaceful campaigns, reminding them that elections are not a do-or-die affair.
