Former Anambra State Information Commissioner, Mr. C-Don Adinuba, has dismissed circulating rumours that ex-governor Willie Obiano has passed away, confirming that Obiano is alive and in good health in Houston, United States, where he resides with his family.
The false reports, which claimed that Obiano — who governed Anambra State from 2014 to 2022 — had died in London, gained traction on social media over the past few days.
Adinuba, in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Friday, described the rumours as “provocative” and “unfounded,” adding that the former governor is healthy and safe.
He said, “I just spoke with former Governor Willie Obiano and his family a few minutes ago. He is hale and hearty in Houston. He is not in London and has not been hospitalised. The reports are not from credible sources and should be ignored.”
Obiano’s personal publicist, Tony Nezianya, also confirmed he had no knowledge of the alleged death, stating, “I can’t confirm this; I am not aware of such news.”
Willie Obiano served as governor of Anambra State from 2014 to 2022, succeeding Peter Obi, and handed over to the incumbent, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo. Born on August 8, 1955, he hails from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The former governor is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N4 billion fraud.
