The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has explained the circumstances surrounding the arrest and arraignment of Samuel Ojeogwu, also known as Sammy West, the younger brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.
SP Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, said police received a petition on October 28, 2025, accusing Samuel and three others of criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, criminal intimidation, theft, and cyber-bullying. The Metro Area Command reportedly issued multiple invitations for Samuel to appear for questioning, but he did not comply.
“After ignoring several invitations, Samuel Ojeogwu was arrested in Lagos under a valid court-issued warrant and transferred to Abuja for further investigation,” SP Adeh said. She added that investigations concluded with his arraignment on November 6, 2025, and that the court remanded him at Keffi Prison pending the fulfillment of bail conditions.
Family members allege that Samuel was denied access to legal representation and kept incommunicado, claiming the detention is connected to ongoing disputes between Daniels and her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko. Regina Daniels had previously raised concerns about her brother’s safety, while her siblings accused Nwoko of using his political influence to orchestrate the arrest.
Amid the legal proceedings, Daniels hinted at a possible reconciliation with Nwoko, suggesting that it might be necessary to secure her brother’s release. In a video shared on Friday, she expressed frustration with the police and the prolonged detention, saying:
“I give up! What was my brother’s offence? Fighting for his baby sister because his in-law would always beat her up? I actually accorded the Nigerian police some respect, but shame on you all. It’s obvious the highest bidder always wins. Now I’m crippled! I will return if that’s the only way — do whatever he says, get injected to be like a zombie, get locked up and raped in the house. Only then will my brother return. By law, there is no tangible case against Sammy West! Ned Nwoko is bigger than the whole of Nigeria — that’s what this means. We lost — or rather, I lost!”
The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to due process and professional policing as the matter continues through the courts, while tensions between the families remain high.
