FCTA And FCDA Workers Begins Strike
Workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration and the Federal Capital Development Authority began a strike on Monday, bringing government activities across Abuja to a halt.
Access to office buildings was blocked, and security personnel were stationed at entrances to prevent staff from entering.
The industrial action affects all FCTA secretariats, departments, agencies, area councils and parastatals, effectively stopping official operations throughout the Federal Capital Territory. The strike followed a warning issued last week, which the unions said the authorities ignored.
The Joint Union Action Congress, which represents employees across the FCT, directed the withdrawal of services, citing long-standing grievances over labour and welfare issues. Workers had previously given a seven-day ultimatum to management, which expired without resolution.
Unresolved matters include unpaid promotion arrears, delays in staff promotions, continued extension of service for retired officials, and missing pension and National Housing Fund contributions.
The unions also criticised the 2024 promotion examinations, claiming the process was flawed and negatively affected many candidates.
The strike underscores growing tensions between FCT workers and management, and its impact is expected to continue until the disputes are addressed.
