FCTA Unions Sues Wike
Workers under the Federal Capital Territory Administration and the Federal Capital Development Authority say the ongoing strike will not end anytime soon, as unions insist their action remains in force despite pressure from authorities.
The Joint Union Action Committee announced that it has filed an appeal against the recent ruling of the National Industrial Court, arguing that the legal move keeps the industrial action alive until all workers’ demands are addressed.
The union said the decision was taken to protect staff interests and prevent what it described as unfair treatment.
Union leaders accused the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and officials aligned with him of using pressure and threats instead of opening sincere talks to resolve the dispute.
They said workers were being pushed to resume duties without any concrete effort to tackle the issues that triggered the strike.
The committee praised FCTA and FCDA workers for obeying the stay-at-home directive and standing firm despite alleged intimidation. It said unity among workers remains strong and warned that attempts to force an end to the strike would only harden their position.
Until then, workers have been told to remain at home and await further instructions from union leaders.
