Fear In Zamfara As Bandits Impose Curfew On Town
Residents of Bilbis in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State are facing tense days after armed bandits forced the community into a strict lockdown and demanded a ₦30 million payment.
The town, known as the hometown of Senator Ikira Aliyu Bilbis who represents Zamfara Central, has been thrown into uncertainty as the criminals tighten their grip.
Reports shared on social media by Bakatsine (@DanKatsina50) revealed that the gunmen have ordered residents to stay indoors while the demanded money is being raised. According to the report, “People are terrified.
Everyone has been ordered indoors, and no one can leave until the ransom is paid,” describing the deep fear spreading through the town.
Bilbis has now been pushed into a standstill as markets, schools, and other daily activities remain disrupted.
Many residents say normal life has almost disappeared as families remain indoors to avoid attracting the attention of the armed groups controlling movement in the area.
Attempts to get a reaction from the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, were unsuccessful as he could not be reached by telephone when the report was filed.
The situation adds to the growing security crisis in Zamfara, where communities continue to battle attacks, kidnappings, and forced levies from armed groups.
