FG Reveals Plans After Kwara Bloodshed
The Federal Government has moved to fast-track a national ranching scheme in Kwara State following recent deadly attacks in rural communities.
The move is aimed at curbing violence tied to pastoral activities and restoring calm in troubled areas.
The presidency said on Saturday that the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Muktar Maiha, confirmed the plan would centre on ranching and organised livestock management.
The programme will include animal counting, digital tagging and planned settlements to improve monitoring and order within the sector.
Maiha explained that the initiative is designed to “promote sedentarisation, enhance traceability, improve disease control, strengthen law enforcement intelligence, and address long-term rural insecurity.”
He said better tracking of livestock would help security agencies monitor movement, reduce criminal infiltration and improve coordination.
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq welcomed the intervention and pledged support for its rollout across local councils.
The Federal Government added that the scheme would “stabilise rural communities, boost food security, improve livestock productivity, strengthen market integration, and create broader economic opportunities,” while also modernising livestock production and reducing clashes.
