Former senator Isah Obaro Abonyi, who represented what is now Kogi Central Senatorial District, has died.

Abonyi served in the Senate between 1979 and 1983 and was remembered for his commitment to public service and his efforts to advance development in his constituency.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has sent his condolences to the late senator’s family.
In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media, the governor described Senator Obaro as a respected statesman and patriot whose contributions strengthened the unity and progress of Kogi State.
He stated that the senator’s life of honesty, humility, and service earned him admiration across the state and the nation.
The governor noted that Senator Obaro maintained active ties with leaders across Kogi State, consistently offering guidance and support for development initiatives.
He added that the senator’s passing is a significant loss to his family, the people of Kogi Central, and the entire state.
Governor Ododo prayed for peace for the late senator and for comfort for his family during this challenging period.
