Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36.
Sharing the news on his X page, Ideye expressed heartfelt gratitude to God, his family, friends, teammates, and fans for their support throughout his career.
“After much thought and consideration with mixed emotions, I’ve decided to retire from professional football. This game created me and gave me everything—joy, challenges, the opportunity to travel, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories,” he wrote.
Ideye also thanked the agents, sports journalists, coaches, and clubs that shaped his journey, as well as the fans who supported him through highs and lows. He singled out Nigeria for giving him the honor of representing the Super Eagles.
The 36-year-old enjoyed a storied career across Europe and Africa, playing for clubs including Neuchâtel Xamax, Sochaux, Dynamo Kyiv, West Bromwich Albion, Olympiacos, and Enyimba FC. Internationally, he earned 28 caps for Nigeria, scoring six goals, and was part of the squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
While his playing days are over, Ideye says football will remain a part of his life as he steps into a new chapter, taking on a role as Director of Player Pathways and Partnerships at Atlantic Business Football Club.
Captioning his retirement statement, he simply wrote: “Thank you all.”
