Pastor E.A. Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has explained why he no longer employs female secretaries.
He revealed that the decision is a personal precaution to avoid potential risks that could arise from being alone with women late at night. Adeboye stressed that it is not an act of gender discrimination, praising his past female secretaries for their dedication and exemplary service.
“From the moment I got to a stage where at night I still have to work, I cease to have a female secretary. Some people think it is gender discrimination. I know myself. I know who I was before Jesus saved my soul. I know the possibility of dangers, being left alone at night with people of the opposite sex,” he said.
He added: “But if you were to get a secretary like the last one I had, she was a wonderful child of God. She saved a very wonderful child of God. She was my secretary at Ebute Meta. Wonderful lady. True child of the living God.
“When I got here, I know I will see you in the office at 3 a.m. Now can we imagine, after a long day of work, everybody finally gone, and my secretary comes and says, ‘At 2 a.m., we are through now, sir. Is there any way I can help you? You know, a cup of tea to relax.’ At 2 a.m., Jonah…”
Pastor Adeboye’s decision underscores his desire to maintain a professional work environment while avoiding situations that could lead to misunderstandings or compromise personal safety.
