Ghana Announces Visa – Free Entry For Africans
Ghana has announced that all African travellers will be allowed to enter the country without a visa from May 25, 2026. The policy, introduced by President John Mahama, is expected to take effect on Africa Day.
It marks a major shift in the country’s travel rules and supports wider movement across the continent.
The decision was revealed during a high-level engagement involving government officials and visiting leaders.
Authorities say the move will remove the need for pre-arrival visas for African passport holders. It follows an earlier plan that was not implemented before the previous administration ended.
Officials explained that the policy will work alongside a new e-visa system to manage entry and maintain border control.
The aim is to make travel easier while still keeping proper checks in place. The plan is also expected to boost tourism, trade, and business activities within Africa.
With this step, Ghana joins a small group of African countries already offering visa-free access to all Africans.
The move is seen as part of a wider push for unity and economic cooperation across the continent. It also aligns with efforts to improve regional integration and free movement.
