Ghana Recalls Envoy To Nigeria Over Rigging Allegations
Ghana has recalled its High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Ahmed, following allegations of electoral misconduct during the parliamentary primaries for Ayawaso East Constituency.
The move was announced by the Presidency in Accra on Saturday and takes immediate effect.
Ahmed, who also contested in the primaries, was accused of irregularities while holding public office.
The recall is intended to prevent any perceived conflict with the Government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees.
The decision comes even as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) begins internal investigations into vote-buying and other alleged malpractice during the primaries.
The Presidency stressed that the action was necessary to maintain public trust and the integrity of diplomatic positions.
Observers note that the recall underscores Ghana’s efforts to enforce transparency and accountability within its political system.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to implement the administrative and diplomatic steps required to effect the recall.
