Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has disclosed that he is being pressured to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at an event in the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Jos, the governor said only divine guidance and the will of the people would determine his political path.

“It is true that they have been putting pressure on me,” he said. “But I told them that only two people can authorise me to change my party — one is the God of heaven, and the other is you, the people. Have you asked me to go anywhere?” he asked, prompting the audience to respond loudly, “No.”

His comment followed reports that he might be considering a defection, which the APC leadership in Plateau State dismissed last week.

Former APC Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, said, “We don’t want anybody coming to our party. You do your thing, and we’ll do ours.”

Reacting to this, Mutfwang said those rejecting him were only doing so out of fear.

“So, those who are rejecting me for what I didn’t even ask for are wasting their time,” he said. “The truth is that 60 to 70 percent of the people in the APC in Plateau would be happy to have us join them. They know I won’t do that — and that’s why they’re angry and twisting things.”

The governor concluded by saying he would not be distracted by such speculations, adding, “It’s a story for another day.”
