Gunfire Rocks Amaechi’s Rivers Visit
Rotimi Amaechi has called on security agencies to track down those behind an attack on his convoy and the burning of an office belonging to the African Democratic Congress in Ubima community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The incident occurred on Friday as the former governor travelled to his hometown for his e-registration as a member of the ADC.
Before his arrival, suspected thugs reportedly blocked the road between Ubima and Omuanwa, stopping buses carrying party supporters who were heading to the event.
Trouble had already begun the previous night when attackers allegedly set the party’s ward office in Ubima on fire.
When Amaechi’s convoy approached the community, the gunmen reportedly opened fire and attempted to stop the vehicles, but security operatives attached to him confronted the attackers, forcing them to flee into nearby bushes.
After inspecting the burnt office, Amaechi urged his supporters to remain calm while security agencies investigate the attack.
He also appealed to authorities in the state to improve security and ensure those responsible are identified and prosecuted.
