A former Ward Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Boriya–Shiya Ward, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, and well-known trader, Alhaji Abubakar Sabi Sise, has been kidnapped at gunpoint by suspected abductors.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said on Friday afternoon that he had no knowledge of the abduction but assured that he would investigate.
Reports indicated that the attack happened around midnight when the kidnappers entered the compound, firing multiple gunshots into the air to frighten residents.
According to sources, one of Alhaji Sise’s sons, who arrived home late at night, was stopped by the kidnappers. At gunpoint, they allegedly instructed him to call his father, who then opened the door for them.
Once inside, they abducted only the father, leaving every other family member unharmed.
By morning, bullet shells and a few live rounds were seen scattered across the compound, confirming that several shots had been fired to prevent any resistance.
Residents described the incident as short but frightening, noting that it lasted only a few minutes before the gunmen escaped.
The local vigilante group in Boriya was immediately informed and has begun combing nearby areas in an effort to locate the attackers and rescue the victim.
This is the second kidnapping recorded in the area within two months. A similar incident took place on 17 September, when another businessman was taken from his home in the Shiya community, only a few kilometres from Boriya.
As at the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Alhaji Sabi Sise remain unknown.
