INEC Backs Wike’s PDP Faction
In Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission has recognised the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Nyesom Wike, updating its website to reflect a new leadership structure.
The move followed a convention held in Abuja.
Abdulrahman Mohammed was listed as National Chairman, while Samuel Anyanwu was named National Secretary.
Some other officials were also listed, although a few names from the recent convention were missing, raising fresh questions within the party.
At the same time, a Federal High Court in Abuja barred the rival faction led by Kabiru Turaki from accessing the party’s national secretariat.
The court ruled that their earlier convention and decisions violated existing orders and were invalid.
The Turaki camp rejected both the court ruling and the convention outcome, insisting the matter is still before the Supreme Court.
The crisis has deepened divisions within the PDP as political tensions build ahead of the 2027 elections.
