IPOB Hits Back At US Lawmaker
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has dismissed comments attributed to U.S. Representative Riley Moore linking Nigeria’s territorial integrity to the protection of Christians, calling the assertion misleading and historically flawed.
IPOB’s spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful, argued that maintaining Nigeria’s current structure has not prevented attacks on Christians in the North, Middle Belt, and parts of Yorubaland over the past six decades.
The group claimed that repeated violence reflects structural failures in a union of incompatible systems rather than the absence of unity.
The statement also refuted claims that self-determination fuels terrorism, arguing that oppressed communities seek safety, not conflict.
IPOB cited historical examples, including the Huguenots in France and Afghanistan, to illustrate that independence can protect persecuted groups while centralised states often fail.
Powerful said the Biafran movement is a call for a peaceful referendum, not destabilisation.
IPOB suggested that an independent Biafra could offer a safe refuge for Christians and others facing persecution, while regional stability would improve rather than decline under self-rule.
