JAMB Uncovers AI Scams Targeting UTME Candidates
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has uncovered a network of fraudsters using artificial intelligence to swindle candidates preparing for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The discovery was made as the board tracked suspicious online activities aimed at desperate applicants across the country.
The syndicates operate through fake websites and social media platforms, where they promise leaked questions, guaranteed high scores and secret access to the exam system.
JAMB described the claims as “false, misleading and entirely unfounded”, warning that the criminals are exploiting fear and misinformation.
Investigations show the scammers rely on AI-generated chats and automated responses to appear credible.
They demand payment from candidates and parents, claiming they can influence results or provide advance materials for the computer-based test.
The board insisted the UTME system remains secure and cannot be compromised.
It advised candidates to rely only on official channels for information and registration, adding that anyone involved in exam fraud will face prosecution under the law.
