Liverpool’s European woes worsened as they suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven at Anfield, marking their third consecutive loss while conceding three or more goals in each outing.

The nightmare started early when Virgil van Dijk handled a corner inside the area, allowing Ivan Perisic to calmly convert from the penalty spot and give PSV an unexpected lead.

Liverpool struck back quickly. Cody Gakpo’s shot was saved by Matej Kovar, but the rebound fell to Dominik Szoboszlai, who tapped into an empty net to level the score. PSV briefly thought they were ahead again through Yarek Gasiorowski, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Despite dominating much of the first half, Liverpool failed to find the breakthrough. Van Dijk saw a header rebound off the crossbar, and Hugo Ekitike was denied by a fine one-handed save from Kovar.

The second half turned decisively against the Reds. Mauro Júnior delivered a precise pass for Guus Til, who slotted home PSV’s second goal. Liverpool’s problems deepened when Ekitike was forced off with an injury, bringing Alexander Isak on as a like-for-like replacement.

PSV made it 3-1 after Ibrahima Konate’s error allowed Ricardo Pepi’s shot to hit the post, with Couhaib Driouech following up to finish into an empty net. Slot introduced Chiesa late on, but it was too little, too late. Driouech capped PSV’s dominant display with a stoppage-time fourth, leaving Anfield stunned.

The defeat amplifies pressure on Liverpool manager Arne Slot, while PSV enjoyed one of their most iconic nights in European competition.
